You don’t need a special ribbon. Usually a shirt. Not the torn ribbon but your actual clothing. Not symbolic tearing but really tearing your clothing. Just one tear in one outfit. Traditional Judaism does have space for real mourning and remembrance. 7 days. Then 1 month. Then Kaddish. Then Yartzeit on the day of the death. And your community and family stays with you through this. Welcome.
