Well done!!! This is a position I can support! When I was in my twenties, I took in a stray cat to my apartment. My mom couldn’t really visit much after that because she is allergic to cats. Still, she was accepting of the cat because I told her, if I can take care of a cat, then I can take care of a dog, then I know I can handle having children! It worked and was accurate.

I've heard the mothers of a couple of childless friends of mine speak of "my grandcats."

A friend of mine has cats; and 2 sons, now grown -- both have cats. One has no children (of the human variety, that is), the other has a step-child (human).

Some people are allergic to cats (& dogs, and....) like my Mom, so she had a ready excuse not to have a furry friend. I wanted a pony for my birthday too, when I was 6. I didn't get that either. I'm sure we weren't zoned for that, but I didin't know about zoning then. I also didn't know how much they cost to keep, what it's like to clean up after them, etc. etc.
