As an avid cyclist I have no patience or sympathy for folk who drive drunk. Hope the drunk that almost killed your friend and her entire family loses his license and does some jail time to keep him off the road. Folk wouldn't drink and drive if the first offense resulted in them losing their license for 3 years, plus one year in jail. Second offense they lose their license for life and get 5 years in jail. Third offense means jail for life. No reason to allow a recidivist drunk a chance to get back on the road and kill a family, and a dog, and maybe even a cat or two.
