Happy Passover! I hope you have a wonderful one, however you celebrate or even if you don’t! I hope the cooking and cleaning are not too stressful if you are having people over and that your family gets along relatively well or enjoys not getting along.
I have not been to the synagogue I was going to for a long time. As I’ve written about, I am uncomfortable with the fact that they are wishy washy at best in their support for Israel and very leftist in their politics. If I wanted that, I could go back to a lefty Christian church where I already know all the words to the songs and prayers. But I still get my cat’s special medicated thyroid medicine cat treats at a compounding pharmacy next to the synagogue. The staff wished me a Happy Passover! I thanked them for remembering. They know because I used to pick up her medicine on my way to services. It’s so sweet to see casual courtesy and holiday greetings for a Jewish holiday extended, and so sad that that seems remarkable. Shouldn’t we find it normal to hear happy holiday greetings of all kinds?
It’s Passover and I’m not doing anything related. My mother and I were going to go to Longwood Gardens for her 80th birthday (which is next Saturday) but it SNOWED! Yes, it snowed there. It’s cold and wet here and we decided to stay in today. After a week of teaching at my new assignment I am completely exhausted and thought last night I was starting to sniffle, so I’m getting extra rest.
I think a not Jewish friend of mine and I are getting Chinese tonight. We usually have dinner on Saturdays and sometimes I cook but I have a lot to do and don’t have much energy or inspiration. We also get Chinese as a family on Christmas.
Then the matzoh will go on half price sale and I’ll get some because I actually love to eat it, which proves I was not born Jewish.
Love to all. Maybe sometime next year, even if not on Passover, I’ll get to see Jerusalem.
If you are concerned about tired leftism in your synagogue< I would suggest you try Chabad. Worked for me. Happy Passover.
Wishing you a Zeisen Pesach whether you celebrate it as a Jew or not. Don't feel bad about not being politically aligned with the Reform temple you attended. I am not politically aligned with the Reform temple to which I belong, nor much with the Reform movement, but have some good friends at the temple despite our political differences, which center mostly around Trump and my strong pro 2nd Amendment stance. Also wishing you a Happy Easter.
