Your dad sounds really wonderful. (He was about my age.) Despite my current alienation from Israel, I would like to find a way to make a donation in his name.

I was very curious about your friend Jill's Substack, but unfortunately it is hard paywalled—no free sample. I already subscribe to too many of these and need to cut back, not add another one, especially sight unseen.

There comes a moment at which people decide to monetize. I don't know what it's based on. Everyone has a different threshold. I'm very hesitant to cross it, partly out of doubt that my opinions are anything but an addition to the noise, partly out of fear of commitment (if people are paying me I'll HAVE to write regularly). I've thought of at least putting a "buy me a coffee" button on mine.
